How do adcoms evaluate our GPA's? Do they calculate our major gpa, transferable course gpa's, or our cumulative gpa? I've been very confused. Someone please clarify. Thanks!!

I allways assumed they just look at the GPA (whatever it is) on your transcript. Look at your grades. And make a holisitic decision.

It would be a huge waste of time to recalculate gpas or do anything extensive like that.

Maybe in addition to that, they might put extra weight on courses related to your major.

^^I can't say for all schools (I'm sure some schools do it differently) but this is how it is done at Brown. They just go over your transcript semester by semester and see what the trends are and if you are doing particularly well in your major. The committee doesn't really consider which ones are transferable courses (I'm assuming this because credits that get transfered over are calculated after you get admitted).
