hey guys! I was just wondering, how much weight do u think they put on GPA's? Have you guys ever seen someone who had a low GPA but great everything else (SAT scores, Recs, Essays, EC's) get accepted to Hopkins? lol I just want some of your opinions/advice on this.... 0_o

well...I think my GPA was pretty low (3.67 I think? Not too sure) but I got admitted ED with great SAT, Recs, Essays and EC's.

lol that's not that low -_- at all.... hahathanks for responding though :)

jovenes, was that 3.67 gpa unweighted? If yes, then what was your weighted gpa?

yes that is unweighted, and weighted GPA is 4.29 out of a 5.4 (A+) scale. But a 5.4...is completely impossible in our school because of the odd weighting system. If you take the correct GPA boosting courses, the best you could do is a 5.0 in our school. (meaning no electives, all science courses)

4.29 weighted gpa is really high.

actually...it is really easy to get a weighted gpa of 4.3 if your unweighted gpa isn;t too low and it's also hard to calculate weighted gpa in that...some of us only calculate extra pts in for aps only which i think is the more accurate way of doing it lol...

How is 4.29 really high? I think it's lower than most of the people in my grade. Considering the valedictorian has a 5.0, and I have a 4.29 and my rank is 23/285...it's not too great, but still top 10%

Because schools score GPA differently. For the weighted GPA at my school, you get 4 for a regular A, 4.5 for a honors A, and 5 for an AP A. No one has anywhere near a 5.0 weighted GPA because it's impossible when you toss in regular classes like debate/band/orchestra/choir/all athletic credits (all sports are classes here, not after school activities)/art/1st year languages/home ec/health/etc.

Even if you didn't take any non academic electives (not possible because graduation requirements must be met), it's impossible to only take AP classes because there are only 2 AP English courses, and to graduate people must have 4 English credits.

I believe our valedictorian only has a 4.3-4.4 something with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and about 11 AP courses to his name.

Oh, and to answer the original question, in the RD thread for the class of 2010, someone got in with a 3.4 unweighted GPA and there are quite a few with 3.5/3.6uw.

YEAHHHHHHH. THIS GIVES ME HOPE :d

yea, don;t wrry about it, you all have excellent chances =D stressfree! and gl!

hmmm, but truthfully, what do u guys think JHU cares mosdt about? Obviously grades, but I heard they stress your character/personality/recs A LOT too..... ?

yea...they rank recommendations as higher than sats and as high as gpa/course rigour and rank personal statements as high as sats...don;t wrry as long as you guys did well on those personal statements and had great recs you will be fine =D cheers, ed people get to find out possible classmates in just a couple of days!

thanks!!!!!!!! u make me SOOOOOOOOO HAPPPY :D

errr i have a 4.38/4.5 weighted and im top 13% so i dunno where i stand (107/774)

kaseyditz - exactly, it's literally impossible in my school for someone to get a 5.0 weighted gpa because the honor classes are only given 0.5 weight and there are tons of regular classes that are required for graduation. At most, people will get around 4.5

pretty sure you can take almost all of the required regular classes, if not all in summer school or through correspondence to get a perfect GPA, you just have to be that motivated
