hey guys! I was just wondering, how much weight do u think they put on GPA's? Have you guys ever seen someone who had a low GPA but great everything else (SAT scores, Recs, Essays, EC's) get accepted to Hopkins? lol I just want some of your opinions/advice on this.... 0_o

did you copy and paste this from the hpkins forum and forget to change hopkins to cornell?

shame shame shame. lol :-)

HAHHAHHAHAHA yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :( sorry hahahaahahah. wow dumbest mistake ever. hahaha

i was gonna say...

Yeah, just hope you didn't do that on your college essays.....

PWNED

Hehehe, nevertheless, I really was actually curious what's Cornell's view of GPAs...

hahah TRUST ME, i didnt do that on my college essay/app. :D

hahaha…I’ve heard stories of people actually doing just that ^^^lol it happens!
Although GPA and test scores are important, they’re definitely not determining factors…sooo just apply and see what happens…but do show great interest! GL

I believe that at the lower-end top 20 schools (Cornell, Rice, Hopkins), GPA can be a determining factor between and admit and a reject. GPA and test scores will be weighed much more heavily.

it matters more than the SAT

im gonna disagree with cynical from personal experience.
i have terrible class rank / gpa but excellent SAT (well SAT I was not even that good actually) and SAT IIs, and i got into CAS

Hansen, how do you define "terrible"?

as in no honors, no aps (even tho school offers like a million different ap classes) and around 30% rank

lol but is your GPA like a 3.5??? lol or better???

my unweighed is 4.0 but my weighed was like 3.8 out of a possible 6.5, NO Idea how that happened

how is your weighted lower than your unweighted??

What about the other way...great GPA, top 5 (probably #2 by end of this year) out of almost 500 class rank, but very bad SATs?

it can't hurt you that bad unless you're getting below 600's. they know that an SAT is just a 4 hour test whereas GPA is 4 YEARS of work. one thing can't kill you, just make up for it in other ways: recs, essays, the app itself. and the GPA should tip off some concern of a really mediocre SAT score.

CR might end up being below 600...she' just a REALLY hard worker, which accounts for the high GPA. Study as she may, the CR is going to be weak. (760 on Math Level1, though.)
