Gpa

how does UF calculate gpas?
i know it only uses core classes...so APs like human geography don't count towards your gpa?

APs are a plus 1 and honors are plus .5.... so an A in AP Bio is 4 points plus the extra point it is 5 and an A in honors physics would be 4 point plus 4.5 etc.

So ANY AP class you take gets calculated into the gpa?

Yes, all AP/IB/honors classes are calculate and given an extra weight into your gpa.

What GPA and SAT scores should I shoot for to get into UF?

I guess see what the average was for this year (when it comes out) and try to be around the average or higher.

Jonjon1324:
In 2006, 83.1% of applicants that were accepted had a 4.0 (weighted ave).
Only 46.7% of applicants with a 3.7 to 3.99 GPA were accepted.
You probably should shoot for a 1300 (Math + CR) SAT to be competitive. There are lower GPA's and SAT's that get into UF and higher ones that don't, but if you are asking what to shoot for to make UF a match school for you then I would say 4.0 WGPA and 1300 SAT.

Incidentally, this is now posted on the admissions website:

The 2008 application for beginning freshmen will be available online after July 1.

Actually, I think that the numbers mean that 83.1% of applicants with GPAs af 4.0 or higher are accepted, not that 83.1% of accepted applicants have a GPA of 4.0. The middle 50% of the class had GPAs between 3.9 -4.4. (for the class of 2010). Of applicants with GPAs between 3.7 and 3.99, only 46.7% were admitted. Standards will probably be higher next year due to the huge number of applicants, so as Seiclan says, you should aim for a UF calculated GPA of at least 4.0. Another strength is an SAT above 1400 -- 93.6% of applicants with SATs between 1400 and 1600 were admitted. Although for the 2011 class, I know several people with 1500 SATs who were NOT admitted. Also be sure your ECs include leadership activities -- someone in admissions told us that was important.

Yeah I got in with a 1200.

What the admission counselor told us was that anything from a 980-1199 is considered the same score and anyone with a 1200 or higher is also grouped together.
