Gpa

How important is GPA in the admissions process of UM? Do they weight your GPA if your high school doesn't do so? And also, what years do they consider (freshman, sophomore, ...)? Also, do they consider A+'s on your transcript (i have 7 between freshman and sophomore year)

A+,A,A- = 4
B+,B,B- = 3
No difference between an A+ and an A-

They don't weigh your GPA, and don't look at your schools weighted GPA. They do, however, pay attention to schedule strength.

Freshman year is not counted in the GPA. All grades afterwards are used for the GPA.

GPA and schedule strength are the two most important criteria as far as Michigan is concerned. Michigan uses its own GPA formula. As jnpn stated, Michigan does not look at your weighed GPA and does not include Freshman grades. Michigan also does not include non-academic classes such as PE, Home Economics, etc... In other words, take all your Math, English, Foreign Languages, History and Economics classes, and assigned the following values as follows:

4 points for each A+, A or A-
3 points for each B+, B or B-
2 points for each C+, C or C-
1 point for each D+, D or D-
0 Points for each fail grade

No weight is added for honors or AP classes, although Michigan definitely take a close look at what classes you took.

my transcript shows my grades ever since 7th grade...will they calculate my GPA from 7th grade? or will they just use my grades from the past three years at HS?

brkr, Michigan only looks at Sophomore and Junior years. It does not matter what else your schools sends the university.

When you say only academic classes, does that include Art? How about Religion?

I am not sure, but I don't think Art and Religion are considered "academic". I think you can find the list of classes that are included and excluded from the "Michigan GPA" online.

The only classes michigan considers are which are ACADEMIC classes. Ex. Math, Science, Language, Social Studies and Foreign Languages. Otherwise, to the best of my knowlegde no other classes are included. I know for a fact Art is not. Religion im most def. sure is not either, however you should call them up and ask!

does anyone know how they look at international students' grades who take the O level and A level examinations ?

I took some credited high school courses in middle school, I wonder if those count (particular the B which will just lower my Michigan GPA)

Do you really think they would count a grade from middle school if they don't count your grades from freshman year?

Any classes you took before 10th grade or after 11th grade, regardless of how advanced, will not be counted in your GPA. If you are deferred, your 12th grade classes will be counted. Classes taken before 10th grade will never be counted.
