Gpa

i am an international student, and i am not too familiar with the American GPA system. Was wondering if anyone could roughly highlight how you get a GPA and how much work you might have to put in to get a 3.0 GPA at Rice engineering.

I ask because my scholarship requires me to maintain a GPA of 3.0 at Rice.

thanks for the help!

You get a 4.0 for any A's (100-90%), 3.0 for any B's (89-80%), 2.0 for C's (79-70%), and anything below that is failing. At the end of each semester, you average the points you get from each of the classes you are taking to get your Grade Point Average. A 3.0 GPA just means you pretty much have to keep at least all B's at Rice.

thanks to005, so is it considered very difficult to do maintain a 3.0 GPA, or very tough. i mean, wht percentage of students at rice get over a 3.0 GPA?

They don't release stats on that, but I don't think many people lose scholarships. It's not that hard to keep a 3.0, if you don't take a horrific number of classes and actually do the work. 1st semester freshman can also drop classes until the last day of classes, so if you aren't doing well, just drop your worst class. No big deal.
