thank you so much! i havent posted much but you have offered others great advice, Alexandre. my app was complete 10/23. I sent both my SAT and ACT, but only because I took the SAT first and had my scores automatically sent. I also included my SATIIs--US history (750) and literature (720).

welli think it really come down to the competativeness of the school. My school is one of the best in NJ, private, and someone has gotten into engineering with a 92 weighted GPA, and 1280/1400 SATS. The 92 comes out to about a 3.3-3.4 on michigans scale. so yeah, in this case i think the school will make a huge difference. "competative" doesnt really mean much unless the public school is absolutely incredible. like High Tech High in NJ, or one that graduates over 90% to 4 year institutions

quiksilver: for some reason, Engineering and Kinesthesiology had different results last year around here as well....there were many, many kids deferred/waitlisted to LSA, yet those lower down in rank and GPA were admitted to engineering and Kines. (and arts and music as well......).....and, yes, our HS sends 80% to 4 year institutions including all the Ivies and top 20.
I have actually posted b4 that many who were not admitted to UMich last year are attending other top 20 schools this year.

i have the same problem (but worse) tayx63
i have a 3.1 um gpa but 2230/1500 sat. also i have very strong recommendations, ec's, and essays. also, i have taken 9 ap's and the rest honors classes (from one of nj's top high schools). but do u guys think its enough to compensate to give me a chance? (im applying to eng)

I'm from new Jersey and I had 3.8 unweighted GPA and I got in to umich without early notification. It also depends where you live. for example I'm from a very competitive high school in south jersey, and my friends that had higher GPA in north jersey did not get in. generally people in north jersey apply more to michigan than south jersey for many reasons, so if you live in north jersey, it would be kind of hard.

^for most schools, Monmouth is considered South or Central...No idea how that applies but Tsukasa's results last year happened to apply to other top schools as well.....Sometimes, N. Jersey is lopped in together with NY for demographic purposes....

i'm also from central jersey.
and i called spazzing out. cause i have um gpa 3.7, but everything else really good.
they told me nj was behind, so i would not worry...yet.
