gpa

hey what would you say is the average gpa of people accepted to georgetown? I am trying to figure out my chances

thanks!

that is a very bad basis for analysis. Different regions calculate GPA’s differently and even if the scales are similar, the difficulty in attaining a certain GPA may differ. Better question is class rank and there, you really want top 10%

If you want a more complete assessment of your chances, post a complete profile with scores, ECs, etc. GPA will vary greatly depending on high school and rigor of curriculum, but students accepted to Georgetown generally have extremely strong GPAs.

slight disagreement with above post: GPA will not vary greatly with curriculum because most of the admitted students have stellar GPA’s despite rigorous schedules.

I disagree with the previous post. Not all “most rigorous” curriculums are the same. For some rigorous is like 6 IBs and an indepedent study and a choir class. For others l like me, it’s 9 IBs. I think it depends and is harder to have a higher GPA with 9 IBs than it is with 6 IBs and 2 basically free periods.

and how greatly do you discount your GPA for the added rigor? I’m not talking about a flux of .05; I’m talking about a .20+ gap in GPA. In general, GTown students would have taken the hardest schedules available to them and excelled in those classes (3.95+ UWGPA).

Necrophiliac, do you attend an IB school?

this forum is for discussions, not confrontations. I have nothing to prove to you. I only voiced my opinion about GPA’s --even a hard schedule should have a strong GPA for good chances at GTown.

I didn’t mean to attack you and apologize if I made you feel that I was. I am not at all a confrontational person so I was very taken aback by your post and didn’t understand why you would say that. Then I read my post out loud and realized with a different tone than I had implied, I can sound really rude.

All I meant was that although a lot of schools have what is labelled a rigorous course load, it is hard to explain the added stress of 3 extra IBs. I know and understand that it is about taking advantage of the opportunities you are afforded and I, therefore, consider myself lucky to be able to take so many IB courses at a public school. The IB program is so complex and each course has so many requirements and papers that it can be really overwhelming. Sometimes it would be easier to take a free period and an almost free period like choir, no offense intended.

However, taking these extra classes can have an affect of your GPA. .2-.3 less than someone with an IB courseload with a few less IBs and still getting the diploma.

Sorry again if I offended you. I did not at all intend to do so.
