Gpa

How does Florida recalculate your GPA? Do they do the same system as UGA and Georgia Tech where they give you a 4.0 for A and A-, 3.0 for B+, B, and B-, etc...

thanks and plmk,
J

They only use your core academic classes.
A=4.0
B=3.0
C=2.0
D=1.0
F=0.0

Honors are weighted 1/2 pt more. ex=3.5 fora B
AP are weighted 1 pt more ex=5 for an A

so if you get an B+ in a normal class they award you 3.0 points?

Use this spreadsheet. I think it’s the latest. They don’t use +s or -s.

According to those guidelines my gpa is 3.9. Is that good?

It’s good but below average for admitted students.

actually, it looks like I have a 4.02 GPA (including my 9th grade grades which might not count because 9th grade was at a middle school) or a 4.1 (just 10th and 11th grade grades) when I recalculated it according to their system (i think…). where does that put me?!
thanks for the info!

So are the gpa statistics shown here [College Search - University of Florida - UF - At a Glance](College Search - BigFuture | College Board) based on their recalculated gpa? I have more hope then.

The only GPA stats you’ll see published are the weighted ones. There is no comparability to any unweighted scores, so they are meaningless. The stats show that 85% of those with 4.0 and better were admitted.

It pays to check the UF GPA that they’ve calculated. My D was admitted this year and when we called to see what they calculated, they said 3.9. They round to the nearest tenth. According to my calc, it was 3.97 whoich would be 4.0. I sent them my calculation and they confirmed and changed it to 4.0. They apparently did not count the middle school credits that were right on the transcript.

when they say “honors classes” get an extra .5 of a point, does that also cover “enriched classes?”

thanks and plmk,
J

If one made all A’s and 4 is for an “A” - how can someone have more than a 4.0?

Read this thread and you’ll see. Honors are weighted .5 more so an a in Honors is worth 4.5 and an A in AP is worth 5.0.
