GPA's

I've noticed while going around the boards here that GPA's jump everywhere. For the 4.0 scale I know there are two methods, and the resulting GPA has vastly different results than the other. The one method I know is;

(Avg out of 100)/4 = GPA out of 4.0

Or the more weirder way which I just discovered,

4.0 = A
3.0 = B
2.0 = C
1.0 = D

Now in general when colleges do things like report the GPA to collegeboard.com, do they do it the first way or second way? Because sometimes I wonder how it is possible on Earth to get a 2.0 GPA (50) if the first scale is right, but then the 2nd scale seems to use ultra-dramatic drops pointwise when in reality the point might be so minimal. I personally have always calculated my GPA by the first method but I wonder if that is the right way?

The second.

A 100 is an A+ or a 4.0

Although some colleges, notably the UCs, will ignore any +s and minuses and would see a 100 as only a 4.0

You mean the first? The second one is the one where anywhere in the 90's = 4.0.

Sorry if this all seems like a retarded question, but I've always assumed it to be avg/4 = gpa >_<

BUMp (10 char)

bumppppppp

lol, this is how it is. An A is a 4, a B is a 3, a C is a 2, a D is a 1, and an F is a 0. Assign all your classes a number according to the grade you got. After you add all the numbers together, then you just divide by how many classes you take and their you have your Unweighted GPA.

Usually a 90-100 is A
80-89 is a B and so on and so forth.

For Example
CLass 1- A-4
CLass 2- A-4
CLass 3- A-4
CLass 4- B-3
CLass 5- A-4
CLass 6- B-3
CLass 7- A-4
CLass 8- C-2
CLass 9- B-3
CLass 10- A-4
CLass 11- A-4
CLass 12- B-3
CLass 13- A-4
CLass 14- B-3
CLass 15- A-4

53/15= 3.5333 as your GPA

ah ok, thanks

my GPA then still is around the same then, just about .05 lower ^_^

Do you make any changes for AP or honors classes with that method? It seems unfair that Introduction to Cooking would be on the same par GPA wise as Multivariable Calculus with Linear Algebra of Death

I took out all the dumb courses except the dumb courses that lowered my GPA (ex. I took out Manufacturing Systems and Sports Marketing which I got 95s in but kept Art which I got 91 in ....Im being pesimistic) My school doesnt know what "weight" means so they just have every grade as normal

Intro to Cooking is a non academic class, as is art, so it is not included in your GPA.

Yea, you only include academic classes.....

that raises my GPA then ^_^

but I find this funny system of GPAs then realllyy hard to calculate. I originally thought a 3.3 avg (what I saw as the avg admitted gPA for my local state school next door) as really bad because I thought it was like a 80, but now I see its infact like a 89....lol

so that means no one ever gets into college with B's then ? (3.0) im suprised, but from that my GPa is about 3.7 or so
