GPAs

I know similar questions have been asked before, but I think this makes a big difference in how I decide the schools that I apply to

My school calculates unweighted GPA's so that an A- is a 3.7. Therefore, my GPA is about a 3.7 or 3.8. But from what I understand, most colleges recalculate it so an A- is a 4. that would significantly improve my overall GPA to about a 3.9. My weighted GPA would be significantly above a 4.0 - and I think I would have a chance at the top colleges.

How should I view my GPA, the way my high school calculates it or the way that colleges might recalculate it?

How do you want to view it? It doesn't really matter how you view it. Every college recalculates GPA differently based on their own standard based on your transcript. If minus and plus grades are reported on your transcripts, they will probably be taken into account. Besides, the difference between a 3.8 and a 3.9 is virtually nil, and certainly not enough to reevaluate the colleges you're looking at.
