Grad School Comp. Sci. Program Suggestions

Hi.

My friend, who is an international applicant from India, is looking to see if there are any grad schools in America that would be good for his stats. He can afford ~$10,000 per year.

His GPA is 2.75, and his GRE is a 291.

He already got into Northwestern Politechnical University and South Dakota State University. Out of these two, which would you recommend more?

Also, what other suggestions would you guys have?

What is your friend’s motivation for study in the United States? if it’s to get a job in the US neither is a good choice.

@fogcity It is actually to get a job here.

What would you recommend he do?

With a GPA of only 2.75 and very low GRE??? No self-respecting graduate school is going to accept an international student with those stats. Yes, he may get into a few really, really low-ranked universities with very weak reputations… but he certainly will not get a job based on that. Sorry, your friend better make peace with staying in his own country.

The average score for computer science majors is around 321, so your friend would have to improve his/her GRE to get into a better ranked school. Since India/US GPA are not equivalent (did your friend have a first class?) , I would also look at Georgia Tech’s (OMSCS) online program which does not require GRE.
