Hello, I'll likely be applying to MA programs next year and am fairly clueless about the financial aid opportunities. I know that in general they are slim, but can anyone share a good site/source of information on the topic? My area is English, but you're welcome to post relevant info for others as well.

Actually, they’re not really that slim. The majority of graduate students in academic fields (i.e., not MBA-type degrees) are funded by graduate research and teaching assistantships. In English, most major universities require dozens of teaching assistants for the freshman comp courses, etc.

As an MA student, you’ll generally be at a disadvantage to those applying for Ph.D study, in terms of competing for assistantship opportunities. Of course, if you apply for a program at a university that doesn’t offer doctorates in English, you won’t have that problem.

In terms of non-work aid, though, apart from highly-selective fellowships, the only thing out there is loans.
