Grad school in public administration

i am an incoming senior at au and i currently have a 3.0 even. this has much to do with my freshman year. i earned a 2.24 first semester and a 2.8 second semester. i earned a 2.88 my third semester, but since then i have earned 3.5s for the past 3 semesters. hopefully i will continue earning 3.5s until i graduate so that would give me about a 3.15.

i am obviously really humiliated and embarrassed about my grade blunders. in hindsight, my classes were MUCH easier and i should have been earning a 3.5-3.7 during those semesters so i could graduate honors.

however, i do have a pretty good resume. i am vice president of 2 campus organizations, i have studied abroad with one of AU’s more prestigious programs, held 4 internships since being at AU and have continued to tutor disadvantaged students for over a year. one of my internships was with a white house commission and the other one was a european union pr firm. i am currently getting 2 publications - one is a white paper for city policy and one is a volunteer handbook.

anyway, since i told you all these facts…is there any way i could get into a decent graduate school? I am aiming to go for public administration, hopefully not for a couple years after i graduate. i also am considering a year of service through americorps before i consider graduate school. i am hoping to do grad school at american or maybe a top notch school. is this a ridiculous thought?

Maybe you should walk on over to the SPA graduate office and ask them for some advising? The MPA program at AU is one of the top-ranked and I’m sure they could give you some advice.
