Grad School With This GRE?

Hi!

I have a 3.95 GPA from a top 20 university (US News & World Report). Either a leader or founder in the extracurriculars I participated in, over a year of research, some papers have been included in conferences, and I'm not concerned about getting good letters of rec or a writing a good personal statement.

My GRE is a 1200 though and I'm looking at a masters program in the humanities at a few Ivies, Chicago, Northwestern, to name a few. All of my schools say they do not have a cutoff point nor do they post their averages.

Do my chances look alright even though my GRE isn't a 1600?

Thanks!

-Jill

The GRE is not like the SAT. Hardly anyone gets a 1600 - particularly due to the verbal section, where a 700 score is 93rd percentile and the 99th is below 800.

Nor is it nearly as important in admissions. Your GPA is stellar, I bet you’ll have great letters of recommendation and strong writing samples. You will be fine.

One tip: extracurriculars unrelated to your field of study are totally irrelevant for graduate admissions.
