Hi everyone,
I have a few questions regarding the application process for grad schools. I'm currently a senior majoring in biology and i'll graduate next year on may. I'm looking forward to going to grad school for biomedical research next year in fall. Is that possible? If so should i start my application this fall? I am asking these stupid questions because I wonder if the admission committee wants senior students or graduated students to apply.
Another question is that my gpa is 3.2 right now and i know that most of the grad schools have a minimum requirement of 3.0. What are my chances? I did a biomedical research this summer at a university. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

If you want to start Fall 2012, you will apply this fall. Most applications will be due between December and February.

Programs vary on whether they want undergraduate straight from college or want a few more years. Generally speaking, it’s been my experience that science PhD students are on average younger and have fewer MSs than humanities and social science PhD students. I think programs are more likely to take them right out of undergrad.

Most PhDs like their GPA students to start around 3.4-3.5; you GPA is actually a little low. What is your science GPA like? If it’s about the same, you may benefit by spending a few years as a lab tech or getting an MS.
