what is a masters( in engineering or mathematics) like?..do you get to take a lot of classes with people majoring in the same thing as you or do you just take like 2 classes with them and start doing your own thing(research)?

Masters degrees come two ways - all class and mostly class plus a thesis. In either case, the exact details will vary with school, program, etc.

Most universities outline what is expected on their websites.

yeah i only asked coz i'm hoping it has that undergrad feel- take classes, become close friends with class mates, etc. Rather than just being in separate labs doing your own thing....

Well, even if you're in your own lab doing your own thing, you can still become very close with other people in the lab. I feel much more affinity with the people in my lab than the people in my PhD program -- after all, I see the people in my lab every day.

do you do homework assignments and stuff with your class mates?
