So I was talking with a friend and she thinks that I'll have a harder time getting into grad school because I went to a 4 year, am spending this year at a cc, and plan on transferring to a uc... Does anyone know if this statement has any merit? Does it really hurt your chances at going to a great graduate school if you transfer?

It doesn’t hurt you. All that matters is where you actually graduate from, not how you got there. In essence, you are taking the same course load as a UC student, so there is no actual difference that should separate you.

It won’t hurt you, but be prepared to discuss it. Grad Schools are very picky about academic history. I just finished my Grad school apps (and gotten accepted to a lot) and they are very anal about academic history and move like that would cause a red flag.
