Hi,
Son will be a grad student at Univ. of Pittsburgh in the fall. He'll be attending the School of Public and International Affairs. He was going to apply to live in the college-owned off campus apts. but the website all ready states that they are not accepting any more applications. Weird because he only received his acceptance a couple of days ago.

Anyway, does anyone have some suggestions on good off campus apts.? He's looking for apt. within walking distance, furnished with at least a bed and couch, kitchen, laundry room if possible, convenient to a grocery store. Typical college apartment but wouldn't mind paying just a hint more for a good neighborhood.

Where should he avoid looking? (for safety reasons)
Where should he begin looking?
What is a good Street? What is a bad Street to stay away from?

Thanks. We live far away so any help is very much appreciated.

I think it is a shame that Pitt has so little housing for seniors and grad students. But the good news is that March is a great time to be looking. By the end of the month, the selection will be much reduced.

My daughter just rented a place in Shadyside for next year. The leases start in August, from what I have seen. North Oakland and Squirrel Hill are also good areas. For safety reasons, I would avoid a ground floor unit.

Most apartments will be unfurnished though.
