Grade 10 On-A-Whim Practice Test Eval

Hey guys, I was at the library yesterday and spotted a book called "11 Practice Tests for the New SAT" by The Princeton Review. I thought it might be fun to try out a test... I am a Grade 10 High School (Public) student in Canada. So I sat down with a stop watch at the table and took the tests exactly how instructed, then had my dad mark them. Ok, so keeping in mind that I'm in Grade 10, and did absolutley NO studying or preperation (I had never even seen an SAT test), how do you think I did and am I on the right track?

Here are my scores:

680 Writing, 690 Critical Reading, 660 Math.

Thanks!

I'd say you're definitely on the right track...a bit of preparation and more English classes and you'll be in the 2300-2400 range, I'm sure. Good job!

I would say you're not because first time I took the SAT in 10th grade without even knowing what SAT was....I scored a 740 CRITICAL READING 780 MATH and 750 WRITING.

You don't have to brag. I think the OP is definitely on the right track, because that's the question he asked, not whether anyone else has scored better than him in the tenth grade.

OP, since you've essentially started prepping already, I think you should be in good shape by the time you're ready to take the actual test. Your math score, especially, should increase a lot as you get more practice at higher level math from whatever you're taking next year. I'd suggest focusing on learning grammar well first to bump up your writing score because most high school English classes omit any serious treatment of the subject.

And by the way, gameguy, I beat you. I'm not going to say what my score was, but it's usually not a good idea to brag about things on College Confidential because chances are someone will have done something better.

09-03-2005, 10:41 PM apparently on this date's post gameguy said he got a 540 CR, 640 Math, and 630 Writing (you prolly just went down)

I don't know what your goals are but those scores aren't bad. Princeton Review isn't exactly the most accurate, though. The fact you're in 10th grade doesn't make a difference, there's no new information you will learn between now and when you take the test that will assist you. Maybe by next year you will be a little better at focusing.

... prove it?? you cant.
HA

DUDE are you kidding me? NO way you could beat 2270 in 10th grade. I mean i didn't know what SAT stood for.

Here's the proof, gameguy88:

yeah....

that was my brother.

Uh, sure.

gameguy, I hate to break it to you but no one really cares what you got. Go ahead and brag all you want about whatever amazing (or not) score you got. Unfortunately, we're not you so we want advice about ourselves and not about how great and amazing and incredible you are and how we'll never be as good. Sorry, but we're just not interested.

That's exactly (well, not in exact words but) what I was going to say. I'm not accusing you of lying, but remember this: we hate liars/trolls who would say anything to make them look good.

hello everybody. welcome to the internet

That doesn't mean we have to accept what everyone says and not tell them they're being a bit stupid....

mhmmm

was I the subject of this thread?

To the OP: Your scores are great for a sophomore. Obviously, you are on the right track. Just keep taking practice tests, especially from the Collegeboard's Blue Book. And you'll be fine. Good luck!

You know, I really hate that 11 Practice Tests Book. It's an utter waste of time and $. The tests aren't even the real thing (as opposed to the Collegeboard Blue book), and it doesn't prepare you or increase your score. I seriously took EVERY SINGLE test in the book and my score throughout was 2270 or 2250, no joke. Go buy the collegeboard blue book, it's actually really good and it explains the problems really well. You'll actually improve with that book.

Incidentally, 227 on PSAT :)
