It wasn’t listed, the assignment in the syllabus.
Ok…I’m low income
I didn’t mean to come off as insensitive
I worked hard to get to top college!! It in the 1%!

So is was the assignment in the syllabus but you didn’t know about it? Then you don’t have grounds for an appeal. Your explanation of the problem is not clear.
The assignment wasn’t listed.
It’s a 3.7
My work was high quality. I was diligent
So which is it? Did you work hard on it or didn’t you?
Sometimes, professors mention new projects, during the lecture and if you’re not there or you missed the information, its on you to get lecture notes from other students. It happens often. College isn’t going to be fair. Unexpected things will come up and you can’t protest every grade.
I did work hard. Very careful
EVERY assignment is listed on website. This one not. That’s why it is unfair. This is my only appeal
Assignments aren’t listed in the syllabus. Types of assignments are and sometimes have a percent value attached to them. If the assignment wasn’t listed on the website or mentioned in class then the entire class would have been caught off guard. It doesn’t sound like that was the case though. How is it that the rest of the students knew about it and were able to complete it?
So…did you have a plan for paying for this expensive college in subsequent years? Or did you just have enough to pay for year one?
What was your paying plan for subsequent years.
OP attends Yale.
There is no additional scholarship as Yale only gives need based financial aid (they also have one of the most generous financial aid policies in the country).
Unless there is a specific departmental scholarship that you are applying for, you are not going to get anymore money based on grades.
Did you get your package for the 2021-2022 school year?
Has there been a change in your family’s financial situation which warrants an appeal of your package?
Right…why do you need additional money for this upcoming year? Did your family file your financial aid paperwork on time for the upcoming year?
Yale is very very generous. VERY. And for international students as well.
It sounds like you are now looking for outside scholarships to cover whatever Yale financial aid does not cover for you.
Do you know Yale’s policy on receiving outside scholarships? Will they reduce the need based aid Yale is providing for you?
OP there are many students, domestic and international, that worked as hard or maybe even harder than you to gain admission to your top 1% institution and didn’t. They might have even appealed their decision and lost (I’m not sure this is an option but it’s besides the point). Hard work increases your chances for success but it doesn’t guarantee it (and I would personally consider a B successful but that’s just me). When I was in college I had a professor that required an 85% on his final to PASS his class (and his finals were ridiculously hard). I still have nightmares about sitting this exam. All I’m saying is that sometimes life isn’t fair and you have to work around some situations. Don’t become fixated. Good luck in your studies OP.
Was the assignment listed in Canvas (or whichever platform the professor uses)? Did you check all of your emails and Canvas notifications? Did your grade page list the assignment with a 0 grade? Have you asked any of your classmates how they were notified about the assignment? I never listed all of my assignments on my sylabi, just types of categories and percentages. Longer assignments and projects had a rubric; this was usually communicated once with details about the due date. Canvas has made this so much easier; is it listed on the assignments page? Do you still have access to the class? Your professor will (most likely) be able to provide proof of notification/assigment listing, which will not go well for your appeal. Research what you can and let us know.
Assignment wasn’t listed anywhere. Including on the website. Other people complained too.
I got Financial Aid Award Letter, and through need blind. I’m also on SEOG. I have money for tuition. But I’m struggling with living expenses! I off campus.
Roughly $18000 after aid.
Are you trying to appeal your financial aid award or are you applying to outside scholarship programs to augment what you are getting from the school? If it is the former, your grades won’t increase your award amount although they may revisit the award if you can demonstrate additional financial need. For the latter (outside scholarship) you must report whatever is on your transcript - anything else would be perceived as fraud.
I know that. But I’m using external resources.
I’m a Philosophy major with a interest in ethics and value theory.
Yes I did. Tuition is doing well.
My family is low income.
That is an absurd question. I’m low income, and I reside off campus. I didn’t want to live in dorms because of my social anxiety.
I am well aware of that.
Yes.
" Scholarships and other grant aid funded by private companies, employers, or nonprofit organizations. With the exception of employer-funded tuition benefits, most outside scholarships qualify as [merit-based awards]"
Well still. Im not privileged. I rose above severe circumstances to make it here.
Anything is possible if one has extraordinary desire.
That’s crazy though.
Thank you.
Once more….need blind affected your admissions. It means your college did not consider your financial need when you were admitted.it has NOTHING to do with your financial aid award.
Yale guarantees to meet full need for all students? So…they have determined you don’t have any more need. Why do you have this shortfall of $18,000 for next year?
You need $18,000?
Again I ask…what was your plan to pay for subsequent years of college? Getting $18,000 in scholarships as a continuing student is going to be a challenge.
And what is Yale’s policy regarding outside scholarships? Will this reduce the need based aid you are receiving from Yale?
