Does it look better to have a C-, or an F and retake and get an A? I know that the F would never be removed and only crossed out, but my professor is giving me the opportunity to fail now and have a second chance.

Definitely take it

I want to know which is looked better upon when applying for business schools. From what I understand, the F will never be erased from a transcript, only a line will cross it out.

I definitely has some family incidents happen this semester which resulted in a dive of a GPA, but I will not elaborate the incident here.

Can't you retake a C-? I know at my undergrad school you can.

nope, only D+ and lower

in a wonderful school called nyu, stern's bulletin says that
"retaking a class is a violation of school policy" (unless you got F in that class)

it's not even * that* good school anyway...

Seriously, NYU is a decent school, but not that great. i have a few friends who went to stern and graduated with not terrific GPAs, but 3.2+ and they very actively pursued jobs in different areas in the finance sector and they were not able to get many top jobs. I think the ivies or Berkeley (Haas) are much better options.
