Does it really ruin your chances into all Ivy's?

If you're in the top 5% weighted or top 10% unweighted you're fine.

it will hurt your chances. does this mean that it's impossible? no

No, it's not the end of the world...especially if it was a tough class.

give it up already

It does not completely "ruin" your chances, but the other parts of your application had better be solid.

No, you'll have to confine yourself to a life of shame and misery without any hope of attending college. A community college MAY accept you, if they decide to show mercy to your wretched soul.

It depends on what year you got it. Freshman: fine. Sophomore: meh. Junior: not good. Senior, fall: NOT good. Senior spring: fine.

"No, you'll have to confine yourself to a life of shame and misery without any hope of attending college. A community college MAY accept you, if they decide to show mercy to your wretched soul." :-D

Realistically speaking, probably to some extent. Just do your best. I'm sure you have time to raise your grade up.

Why did you get the C? Can't you bring it up somehow?

Okay, if you think you are getting Cs constantly, Ivy's would definitely see that, but if you get one or two random Cs with legitimate reasons, they'd understand. Again a lot depends on what kind of school you are from and things like that....remember, if you want to get admitted to an IVY league or any top tier, PREPARE yourself for that, just don't care about how you'll look during the admission only, because, college will be different and hard, you've to be intellectually ready which may not be all the time reflected through grades.
