I'm just wondering, let's say I get a B in AP bio this year(so I will have an unweighted GPA of 3.81), and assume I get one more B anytime in high school(unweighted GPA of 3.89). I know that grades aren't the only part of the college application, but would it really hurt me to have only a 3.89 GPA? I am especially worried since I am asian(chinese), so I know my college chances are significantly lower.

It depends, how does your GPA scale work and where are you considering applying?

my GPA scale is
A=4.0
B=3.0
C=2.0
D=1.0
F=0.0
I want to apply to ivies and schools like MIT, UChicago, etc

Hmm I don’t know too much about unweighted GPAs, but if you have any “hooks” (low income, bi-lingual, etc.) they might be more lenient. But keep in mind those schools are hard for anyone to get into.

3.75+ is generally a good range for top colleges. I wouldn’t worry

also, your chances aren’t significantly lower for being asian. only slightly

Being bilingual and having a low income are not hooks.

Hooks include: URM, first gen, legacy, recruited athlete, and developmental admit status.

If you have a low income colleges will look at your application with your low income in mind, but it is not a hook.
