I've heard Cornell really deflates your grades compared to other schools. When it comes down to it, I would rather have grade inflation than deflation. Is this generally true?

No, it is a myth. There seems to be quite a few surrounding Cornell. Median GPA is around a 3.3. Most courses have medians of B+/A-. Only a few courses in engineering or premed have lower medians.

these engineering and premed courses have lower medians on purpose or they're just harder?

3.3 is actually higher than the college I'm at right now (I'm a GT). The average is 3.0 (if median and average can be compared in such a way). Altho it's obviously easier here that's good news that there will be more As n such.

Bad rumor, bad bad rumor! Go back into your cage with the stupid suicide rumor! lol

benandjerrys, on purpose I guess. They could curve to whatever they want to. Even so, the only classes I've had that curve to a B- are math classes in the engineering sequence. Mostly its about B+, depending on your major (ECE or AEP curves lower than ORIE, for instance).

Yes, on purpose and for good reason. There are too many damn premeds who have no idea what medicine is like. Intro bio, gen chem, and orgo tends to take care of that and leave only the ones who are truly good enough to be doctors.

Oh... all right. Guess Cornell's back on my list.

There's a reason Cornell does better than students from other schools when they actually arrive at med/law school (rumor that I hear from many around here). We do a better job of weeding out the riff-raff.
