Grade deflation policy headed to garbage bin

Princeton committee recommends end to Princeton's contentious grade deflation policy. Too late for the classes already impacted - but better late than never.

Too bad there is no way to get other schools to improve the rigor of their classes or to develop a grade correction tool.

For better or worse, Princeton’s policy of grade deflation is heading nowhere fast. The committee’s recommendation is not a guarantee of action, and if administration acts, it will not be speedy. That Princeton students will have a lower GPA than their Harvard and Yale counterparts for a while is unfortunate, but this should not deter potential applicants. Your transcript will always carry a note about the deflation policy, so you don’t have much to worry about when applying to jobs or grad schools.

Good luck with your application, future pre-frosh. :)
