Grade deflation!

I heard Boston U. has serious grade deflation! There is even a NYT article about it… As an aspiring doctor, GPA matters a lot for my entrance to medical school =/? So anyone heard of this and would like to give me your point of view?

In most cases, grade deflation means that a student didn’t get the grade he feels entitled to. If you want to graduate with an easy 4.0, you should go to UMass.

So it isn’t so much grade deflation as it is a lack of grade inflation?

In my four years at BU as a Neuroscience major, I never once experienced grade deflation in any of my classes. Science courses, especially premed requirements, are never easy, but if anything the exam averages are on the lower end and grades are scaled up. I can only really speak for science/psychology courses, however.

Thankss a lot! your post just reaffirmed my desire to go to BU! I am doing premed in bio major so that should be ok then!

or… maybe you are just super smart ;D

haha but on a serious note, thanks for the confirmation!

Haha no worries! Premed classes are definitely tough but as long as you’re doing better than the class average you’ll be set. It’s definitely discouraging at first seeing a 68 on your first chem exam, but when you find out the class average was a 56 and the exam will be scaled up you realize you’re doing better than you thought  BU is such an amazing school with so many awesome resources and faculty and research opportunities–if you ever have questions feel free to message me!
