Grade deflation?

Can anyone attest to the grade deflation at Fordham, particularly in the honors program? Do the gpas of honors students suffer as a result, even in light of what I am sure is an enriching and intellectually rewarding program?

Initially I was worried about this too. But I’m pleased (disappointed?) to report that good grades do come to those who put in the effort for them, whether in the honors core, regular core, or major courses.

I am not in the honors program but I overall I have found the grading at Fordham to be fair.

I’m in the Honors program and while some classes are tough (all of my friends in my grade that are not in the program are always amazed by the amount of work I have to do) the professors grade fairly, so prepare to do a lot of work in some classes.

Okay, there is a list outside the door of one of the professors at Fordham that has the average GPA of every major.

The lowest is math, with an average GPA of about 2.8
Next is chemistry, which is around 2.9

Non-science majors have average GPA of around 3.3

Now, the average GPA of students in the honors program is about 3.5, probably even a little higher!!!

So yes, the fact that honors students are higher caliber students is definitely accounted for. It is by far the highest average GPA!

@ShowShowShow …If I might be so bold as to ask in which department this professor is faculty?

The math department… Fourth floor of JMH, the professor is dr. poor. Anyone can take a look
