Grade Deflation?

Ok so I have good grades and all and I wanna go to top schools like HYPSM...
But my UW GPA isn't competitive. By the time I graduate high school my UW GPA will be maybe a little above a 3.7 ... MAYBE. But my weighted GPA is 4.35 and prolly will be close to 4.4 by the time I graduate. Is this grade deflation or do i just suck? And Im also in the top 3% of my class.

They look at you in the context of your school. If top 3% of your school is HYPSM material, then your GPA is competitive, even if the raw number is lower than what HYPSM material might be at another school.

^Correct

If you’re in your school’s top 3% or 5% ish, then they’ll take that into consideration.

I think the top 10% of our graduating class (2011) is HYPSM material, but the rest of the school is meh, what do they do about that?

it really depends on your school.

“I think the top 10% of our graduating class (2011) is HYPSM material, but the rest of the school is meh, what do they do about that?”

If 10% of your school goes to HYPSM usually, then don’t expect that to change dramatically from year to year. If you’re top 15% you’re probably competitive for HYPSM then. Other than that, what’s your question?

I am projecting similarish numbers. If anything I feel like a lot of our classes have some inflation but I have no idea
