we have gotten rid of THE PROBLEM (that's code talk for you ;) )

then why the hell are you a green day fan?

I'm not!! lol. i was for like..1 week a year ago when i made the user name lol. since then i've made it very clear i dont like them much.. arghh

ah...

hard to predict the future -.-

AOL... ewwwww. It's not even a real ISP.

My family still keeps AOL for our email accounts though the have DSL through BellSouth. It's not as bad as you make it sound...

Jon K. you like Rhianna? lol. i like songs that dont say the same thing over and over and over.

Some songs. She's hot, too which helps. ;) Especially with bangs.

AOL IS AWFUL! Anyway, I just ordered my computer, and I forgot to select EarthLink for my 6-month dial-up provider. So, I guess I'm stuck with AOheL. Oh well, it does have some good features (that I can get on other programs from Time Warner for free...).

I bought a kick-ass computer, though. It's a desktop. Here are the specs:

-Pentium D 3.2 Ghz (dual-processor system, so I got TWO DUAL CORE processors, equalling the power of FOUR 3.2Ghz processors... that's going to be ****ing awesome ass speed)
-2 GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 533Mhz
-250 GB Hard Drive
-48x CD/DVD-RW and DVD-ROM
-3.5 inch floppy (I HATE that you have to order these separately now...)
-TV Tuner to watch TV on my computer
-256 MB PCI Express(TM) x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI RadionX600 SE HyperMemory Video Card
-17 Inch Flat Panel
-Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi(TM) XtremeMusic (D) w/ Dolby(R) Digital 5.1 Sound Card
-100 Watt Surround Sound Speaker System w/ Subwoffer
-Optical Mouse (not one of those crappy scroll ones)

It will have XP on it, but I'm going to but Linux on there :-)

The computer was actually pretty cheap ($1241) compared to the usual price ($2000). YAY FOR DISCOUNTS!

What Linux? I hope it's Slackware or Debian.

I have an older version of SuSE in my room which I like. But, I'm not too fond of the newer SuSE OS's as SuSE has integrated with NetWare (I hate that system... they used it at my school, and it was a slow, inefficient POS).

I'm going to shop around for a newer version. I have another disc in my room which is 64-bit compatible; but, I haven't used it yet because my "experimental" Linux box only has a 32-bit processor. So, I'm really not sure which version yet.

You must watch her music videos.

Yes, I do.

What graphics card Runningcircle? Or are you not really a gamer ;)

runningncircles1 your videocard is a piece of crap. will work very slowly with vista. also, what motheboard do you have? there are no dual-cpu motherboards for LGA775 so you must have just spent extra money on the second CPU.
and one dual-core presler cpu doesnt work twice as fast as the single-core prescott would. not even close.
PS dont use debian. its too much pain in the butt to configure for a beginner, since its developed by enthusiasts and theres no company behind it. i'd say suse is the way to go, although i'd use windows.

Aww... did Masterus leave? I finally take the time to read through this entire thread, and the OP has already stopped posting. That sucks.

In our district 97 to 100 is a 4.0 and 93-96 is 3.8.

dima, what are you talking about? The only graphics card above it on the order form was the 512MB ATI Radeon X1900 XTX. I don't think my computer will choke... Anyway, I'm not getting Vista until I absolutely positively have to (I'll be in college, and won't have the money to upgrade, haha).

BTW, I'm not a beginner on Linux :-). Been a user since middle school (they had it on the computers at my school in some of the labs, so I got into it).

Jashper, no, I'm not much of a gamer. Most of the specs I got were minimum requirements from my college (except for the TV-Tuner... that was my idea, so I wouldn't have to worry about TV-sharing conflicts with my roomie, haha).

Also, I've seen screenshots of Vista, and a bootleg "demo" on my friend's computer... I don't like the way it looks. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Also, he has a less powerful computer (probably about 1.8 Ghz, many older features as you can imagine, including video card) and it ran okay. Some of the graphics features were disabled, but it still seemed alright.

Here are the PREMIUM requirements to run Vista, as per http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/capable.mspx:

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

-1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
-1 GB of system memory.
-A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero.
-128 MB of graphics memory.
-40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
-DVD-ROM Drive.
-Audio output capability.
-Internet access capability.

ABSOLUTE MINIMUMS:
A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:

-A modern processor (at least 800MHz).
-512 MB of system memory.
-A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

So, again, I don't think my system or video card will choke (plus, I can always replace the videocard... it's offboard :-) [I hate on-board])

Yeah, sry about my post, I realized you had posted your graphics card about an hour after I posted that lol.

Multiply that by two -- don't repeat mistakes of XP.
went off looking for 1.5 GBs of memory

Don't use Ubuntu also, despite all gratitudes it's a definite piece of crap.
The most beautiful Linux I've used up to this time (and I tried almost all TOP15 of distrowatch) was Fedora Core 4. I'm trying to find in myself strength and time to install FC5 but can't :(
So I stuck with Windows 2003 RC2.

Yeah, I multiplied by at least two on all of my specs. I've heard good things about Fedora. Can I download a freeware version online, or do I have to buy if at a software store?
