Grade Drop affect?

Hi!
I am currently enrolled in a community college and have applied for several colleges for the Fall of 2018.
I have a GPA of 4.0 out of 43 credits and am taking 20 credits this semester.
Taking 20 credits, having an internship, doing volunteer, preparing transfer essays all at once was pretty hard to balance and as a result, I kind of ruined one of my courses. I am expecting to end up with a B for that course (currently I guess I have like a C or less because I missed the mid-term exam due to illness with the professor saying no make-ups available) and I was wondering whether it would have a huge impact on my admission chances since all of the universities that I applied to requires mid-term grades. I guess that single course would put like a C or smth on the Mid-Term Report and I am really worried about ruining my chances. What are your thoughts about this?

I think Cs, generally, are something you want to avoid if what you seek is a some sort of safety net, that being said, my own judgement associated with your situation is that a B should be the minimum you want to achieve really — but, as I said, this is strictly my judgement.

Of course there are qualitative levels to the C and how much it can affect you, at least id wager this to be the case. What I mean by this is that a C in Sex Ed as a (not sure about your major so I’ll assume math for the sake of discussion) math major I do not believe to be as detrimental as a C in Calc 3 or Symbolic Logic or any pre-req/elective associated with the major for that matter, however, pre-reqs being the most significant I’d say.

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think a C in a mid-term report won’t help you — whether or not it ruin your chances I cannot say, but if it is a pre-req or some class associated with your major, then I’d say the impact is more significant. However, if you can by some means explain the C in the report or speak to your professor during office hours there may some sort special arrangement that can be made regarding your first exam especially if it was a serious and substantive illness, life-threatening would be a good example.

Do I think it ‘ruins’ your chances? I’d say no. But I also do not think this is helping you. Take my judgement with a grain of salt because I do not know what schools you applied to etc.

Hope this reply can do something significant for you. Best of luck.

A C doesn’t look good. If you’re sending the midterm report out, definitely make sure to also include a note to let the colleges know why it’s that low.

Regarding ruining your chances, it’s hard to say. Depends on the schools you’re applying to.
