Grade Inflation?

Hey! I'm a '14 and I was talking to a friends going to some other Ivies and they were talking about grade inflation/deflation. My friend at Princeton says Princeton openly tells their students that they practice grade deflation, and my friend at Havard says Harvard is pretty open about having grade inflation. I haven't heard very much from Dartmouth about this though. Does anyone know any information? Thanks!

There’s a decent amount of grade inflation at Dartmouth…more so in the humanities than sciences, which makes pre meds and science majors bitter. But, Dartmouth also puts median grades on transcripts…so grad schools and employers know if that A came in a class with a median of a B- or a median of an A.

Except, for the most part, they don’t care. For example, law school is all about gpa+last. Brown’s mean of a 3.6 will beat Dartmouth’s mean of ~3.3 EVERY time, all other things being equal.

I wish my high school does that - I constantly got Bs in a class where the median, mean, and modal grade is F.
