Prompt: Is the world changing for the better?

ESSAY BEGINS
"In our world, the space for change is behemoth. Changes occur everyday, and we, the people, have to acknowledge the fact that the environment that surrounds us is indeed changing for the better. Several historical events and figures prove that as long as people try, work, and seek improvements, our world is always going to change for the better.

In 1947, Jackie Robinsons brought an unprecedented change to the world of sports. Robinson was the first African American baseball player to ever participate in the Major League Baseball. By doing that, Robinson paved the road for so many other African American players to freely participate in that league as well. Such change had ended a history of racial segregation. The life of Jackie Robinson and the momentous change that shall forever solidify his career in history prove how our world is always changing for the better.

From racial segregation and sports to the history of France, the French Revolution is another epitome that substantiates how the world improves day in and day out. In 1796, the french people, affected by the ideas of the Enlightenment, sought change in their country. They first asked their king, Louis XVI, for radical changes. Then, when these changes went unheeded to, the french people rebelled, starting a movement that would forever change the face of France and, consequently, the entire world. The French people were successful in ending the corrupt regime of the royal family. Although the lives of thousands of french people were given in the process, they could finally enjoy the freedom and the good political conditions they had always wanted. The change brought forth by the French Revolution proves how our world changes for the better each and every day.

The enlightenment, or the movement that called for the usage of logic and the suspension of traditional beliefs in the handling of most affair in life, proves how our world ameliorates constantly. Enlightenment thinkers such as John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau called for the usage of reason and logic in all aspects of life. The people responded, making yet another change that would improve the world the people back then knew, only for the better though.

All in all, change is today becoming faster than it had ever been, and as history proves, every day, indeed, our world changes for the better. With that being said, we ought to seek improvements just like our ancestors did. “Never believe that a few caring people cannot change the world. For indeed that’s all who ever have” - Margaret Mead."
