PROMPT

"Tough challenges reveal our strengths and weaknesses." This statement is certainly true; adversity helps us discover who we are. Hardships can often lead us to examine who we are and to question what is important in life. In fact, people who have experienced seriously adverse events frequently report that they were positively changed by their negative experiences.

Do you think that ease does not challenge us and that we need adversity to help discover who we are? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

ESSAY

The hardships and challenges that we face allow us to discover ourselves by showing us our full potentials. For example, a character in a t.v. series that I watch was deserted on an island. He came as a rich, spoiled young adult who did little to be proud of. Throughout the year that he was trapped on the island, he taught himself to use a bow and arrow to fend for himself and to feed himself. With unprecedented accuracy, he could shoot a target the size of a dime from far away.

After that year, a young woman was held captive on that same island, and he used those honed skills to free the both of them and return to civilization using the kidnappers' boat. Once back at home, he put his abilities to good work. Under a disguise, he scoured the city streets for people who needed saving from criminals. The adversities that he faced on the island allowed him to discover who he really was: a hero.

Thank you!
