Hi guys
This is my first SAT essay and I really don't think I did well! I think its a bit basic and not very convincing. Any comments will be helpful:)

Assignment: Is memory central to our progress, or does it merely hold us back?

I believe memories are central to our progress as human beings. Memories can be one of the most enjoyable parts of our lives; taking us back to some of the best times of our lives and encouraging us to move forward.

I remember the travels my family and I used to take when I was a child. They held some of the memories that sparked my passion in life: archaeology. The treks we took when I was five to forts that held artifacts and mysteries sparked my intererst. It was these memories that made me pursue my dream and keep up my determination and grit.

Another set of memories that are sacred to me are those of my grandmother. She was one of the kindest, most hardworking and lovable people I had ever known. It was a terrible day for me when my grandmother passed away, but it was my memory of her character that made me want to be like her. To this day, I still put effort and love into what ever I am doing as I know it would make my grandmother proud.

I believe that without the memories I have mentioned above, I would not be the person I am today. I would not be as hardworking or determined, I would not be as honest or as kind and I would not look forward to the future as much as I do today.
The memories of who I have seen and want to be later in life have pushed me forward.
