PROMPT:Is there always multiple explanations or another point of view?
In everyday life, it can be clearly seen that there is no one explanation for an event or happening. Specifically, World History demonstrates this and proves that there are always multiple explanations for different events.

An exceptional example of multiple explanations is the downfall of the Roman Empire. After Rome’s initial collapse, a variety of groups discussed the factors that led to the Empire’s downfall. The Franks, Visigoths, and other Germanic European tribes felt that their numerous attacks directed at Rome’s borders wore down the Empire’s strength overtime and this ultimately led to the collapse of Rome. On the other hand, former Roman politicians argue that Rome's decline was caused by internal problems such as corruption and inadequate revenue. Today, Historians still debate over the explanations and causes of Rome’s decline.

Another example that can prove that there is always more than one explanation for a certain event is the questioning of Europe’s motives for imperialism during the 16th and 18th centuries. The religious order in Europe claimed that the reason for Europe’s imperialist activity was to spread Christianity around the world. Although missionaries did accompany many sailors to distant lands to convert the natives, explorers like Columbus and Dias sailed around the world for glory and gold. To this day, Historians disagree on this issue. Along with debating about past events, people come up with different explanations for events in the modern world.
Today, people still have different perspectives on the Iraq war. Around the world, many people discuss America’s reasons for invading Iraq. Former American President George bush insists that the attack on the Islamic country was part of his war on terror. Some United States citizens believe that the military coup was initiated to gain control of Iraq’s bonanza of oil. A few third- world nations feel that America’s aggressive behavior is plainly and act of Western imperialism.

We see that people not only disagree on present issues, they debate over events that occurred in the past. Multiple explanations for different events arise repeatedly throughout history. There is always more than one way to explain an event.

I would give this essay a 5 For a score out of 12, I would give it a 10/12 possibly 11/12. You adequately satisfied the prompt by providing several different explanation for several historical events. However, the essay might be better if you provided a bit more concrete/specific details to make your argument stronger. It’s a pretty solid essay.

For your thesis, it was a decent essay. However, this SAT prompt is set up for you to either qualify it or negate it, not affirm it completely. There are not always multiple explanations. Are there multiple explanations a lot of the time? Yes. But not always. I think, argument wise, you’d be better off by giving one example of a time when there wasn’t multiple explanations and qualify the thesis accordingly.
