Grade my SAT essay please?

Hi, can someone help me grade my essay for the writing section of the SAT? Criticize freely so i can hopefully improve. Thanks in advance :)

Prompt: The old saying, 'be careful what you wish for', may be an appropriate warning. The drive to achieve a particular goal can dangerously narrow one's perspective and encourage the fantasy that success in one endeavor will solve all of life's difficulties. In fact, success can sometimes have unexpected consequences. Those who propel themselves toward the achievement of one goal often find that their lives are worse once "success" is achieved than they were before.

Question: Can success be disastrous?

Essay:

Everybody strives to lead a better life than they do right now. Everybody has goals, dreams and ambitions. Everybody loves the taste of success. However, not everybody fully realizes the effect successfully achieving his or her goals may have.

A blaringly obvious example of the negative effects success brings along with it is being famous. Actors, singers, models are all examples of people that have accomplished great things in their lives. Yet, they all share another thing in common which is the lack of privacy. Continuously being followed around by the paparazzi and having vicious rumors told about them are not things aspiring Hollywood stars wish for. However, it is a price they have to pay for their stardom. A price that not everyone can handle properly. For example, Britney Spears' breakdown all those years ago; Shia La Boeuf acting out; and Cory Monteith's, as well as many others', drug issues. All these stars couldn't handle the fame due to their success and are proof that success can sometimes be disastrous; disastrous enough to even end someone's life.

These are certain cases though. On the whole, success connotes happiness and fulfillment. It is something that drives and motivates people. Without wanting to succeed at something, many people would lead purposeless lives. Once people lose sight of what it is they want to achieve in their lives, it becomes difficult for them to live a life of meaning. I have an uncle that doesn't believe he can succeed at anything anymore due to his old age. Because of this thought, he doesn't try and remains docile and stoic. This shows that not wanting to succeed can be more disastrous to one's self than actually succeeding and facing the negative effects, if any, that come after.

To conclude, success may not always change an individual's life in the best way but the journey that is trying to succeed is one in which people go through an immense amount of personal growth. The dedication and ambition that also develops in an individual trying to succeed at something are traits that will only enhance he or she as a whole. And so, I believe that success is more beneficial to people than disastrous.

My MC Writing score is already high so hopefully if I can improve my essay writing skills in time for my SAT in October I can manage to pull up my writing score into the high 700s :) thank you again!

ok … skimming through the first 3 paragraphs … i was going to put a straight 10 … but to my shock … ur last sentence shattered every idea in my mind … u kind of contrasted ur thesis ?? or maybe u didnt have one ?? … so i got back to ur intro and discovered that u really didnt have a thesis which i didnt discover on first time … so basically u didnt have a thesis …then u contradicted ur 1st example which showed that it is harmful by saying at the end that it is benfecial … two disasters that got u down from 10 to 4

oh okay. i was under the impression that to get a good essay score, you’re meant to look at both sides of the argument and that is what i was trying to do with my different examples. thanks though

Well … this is very common … i see many people doing this … however i never saw a essay with good score writing this way
