Grade my SAT essay

Please try to give me the grade that I would get if I wrote this for an actual SAT test.

Prompt: Can knowledge be a burden rather than a benefit?

Knowledge is ultimately beneficial because it reveals truths about the world, which can them be exploited. Several examples from history clearly demonstrate that knowledge is power.

Benjamin Franklin, the embodiment of the Enlightenment, used his extensive knowledge to invent many devices. Franklin was a polymath, educated in many fields including science, history, and law. With his scientific knowledge, he discovered the nature of electricity and invented the bifocals and Franklin stove. With his knowledge of law and history, he was one of America's great Founding Fathers who later became a minister to France. All of these powerful achievements were directly caused by the power of knowledge.

Fritz Haber, utilizing his knowledge of chemistry, developed a process which has saved millions from starvation. During World War I, Britain's blockade on Germany forced it to seek new sources of Nitrogen to fertilize plants. One key compound was ammonia, which the Haber process focuses on. Haber developed this process using the principles of chemical equilibrium. Although designed for Germany, this process was used throughout the world to procure better crop yields. The feeding of millions was achieved through the application of knowledge.

In the 1960's, NASA, using their knowledge in Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering, developed the Apollo mission that would put a man on the moon. In 1961, fearful that the USSR would win the space race, John F. Kennedy pledged to put a man on the moon before 1970. NASA got off to a small start, but they eventually developed the correct technology. In July 1969, Americans witnessed a few astronauts from their country make the first human steps on another world. This unprecedented achievement could not have come about without the combined knowledge of hundreds of experts.

The examples of Benjamin Franklin, Fritz Haber, and the Apollo Mission demonstrate that knowledge is indeed power. It has been and will be used to improve the condition of humanity.

Bump 10 char

Definitely a 6
Clear, concise facts and good thesis.

Thanks. If that’s the case, I get a 2370 on my practice test, missing zero CR or Writing, but missing 2 math questions by stupid mistakes.

agreed, 11-12. Really good essay

^
According to CB, yes. However, since I am taking AP English Language, I can’t help but feel that this essay would get an F in normal English classes. Oh well.

This hovers between a 5 and a 6. Using more words like “polymath” (i.e. high-level SAT words) will help swing this essay towards a 6. Also, the length of the essay (how much of the 2 pages it covers) as well as your handwriting (sloppy versus nice) are two aesthetic factors that will influence the impression the grader has of your essay; long essay and pretty writing will also help you get a 6. Do note that length has a stronger effect than pretty handwriting (IMO), so don’t sacrifice time that you could use to write more to beautify what you’ve already written.

It completely fills 2 pages and I think I have good handwriting since I print and don’t use cursive.

So this would probably get an 11?

Ya but a 11 is really good regardless. You will get a 800 as long as you get all the writing questions right.

Okay.

For math,is -1 an 800?

In the BB,it says that, with an 11, I can miss one question. Is this generally true nowadays?

Ya generally.
You can even score a 10, but you can’t miss any questions.

Math is a different story. It depends on the how the math section was for that month. If the math was harder, then it is usually -1 is 800. But generally its no wrong is 800, -1 can range from 770 to 790.

Okay, math is easy, so I should I just need to stop making stupid mistakes(which is easy; I usually finish in less than half the alloted time).

Writing is always -1=800, right?

For reading, I’m only worried that I’ll have 2 or 3 SCs with unknown vocab.

Ya its the mistakes that lose people’s 800s for math.

Well a 11/12 essay is usually -1=800.

Use direct hits for vocab

Okay.

One more question: for Reading, is -2 always 800?

Its really good, but try to use more sophisticated words. Also, ur thesis is good, but ur conclusion needs more working on. Try to connect to ur personal experiences. That might help. Also write as neatly as possible. Good connection to historical examples.

Does anyone know the scoring scale for the most recent SAT? That is, how many one can get wrong in each section and still get an 800?

I haven’t seen a curve that good in 5 years’ of tests I’ve looked at.

I think I saw someone that posted that -2=780.

As far as I can tell, -0 and -1 CR=800 (for the architecture form). -0=800 Math for both forms, and for me, -2 W MC+12E=800.

^not necessarily

I have seen tests for CR where -2 is 800. Look on BB actually. The first test is like -3 is 800.

Ya math is VERY rare for -1 800. But you never know.

What’s the chance that -2 CR is 800?
