Prompt: Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions of authority?

Blindly trusting leaders or others in a position of authority will always lead to downfall. All leaders or people with political power are humans - making it likely for them to err. Challenging the opinions of those with power is paramount to the well-being of society and mankind.
The Civil Rights Movement in the 1950's and 1960's is a great indicator of why questioning authority is a must. The fight to eliminate seggregation of black Americans was fierce, but only successful because many blacks and whites together questioned the oppressive American societal hierarchy that was in place. Many questioned the government of the existence of laws such as the Jim Crow Laws, which encouraged blatant discrimination and seggregation of blacks. Only after questioning the existence of these pernicious laws were blacks able to gain socio-economic equality.
Hitler's reign in Germany and his merciless genocide of the Jewish race exemplifies why leaders should always be questioned. Hitler blamed Germany's devastated economy and poverty-stricken country upon the existence of Jews during his rise to power. No on questioned his authority, and foolish trusted Hitler - believing the the Jews' existence led to the downfall of Germany. Trusting Hitler led to a mass genocide of 6 million innocent Jews - a grave mistake that has shamed Germany significantly.
Putting faith in other humans without questioning their actions will lead to the downfall of the human race. The freedom of blacks and the elimination of social class in American society are stunning results of what questioning leadership can lead to. Leaving blind faith in leaders cab yield catastrophic results such as the genocide of the innocent Jewish race. Those with power and authority must always be questioned, and such bold actions will eventually pave way to a more harmonious and progressive society.
