Do people accomplish more when they are allowed to do things in their own way? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

In many instances, when people are stifled or forced to use methods other than their own, their accomplishments do not match their abilities. People certainly accomplish more when they are given the freedom to incorporate their own style and let their idiosyncrasies define what they do.

Harvard laureate and former physicist Max Planck graduated from high school with many academic accolades. He was a top notch student, but he often lived in the shadow of his brother and famous musician, Ronald Planck. Robert initially decided to pursue a career as a classical pianist. But after his first semester as a music major, he came to the conclusion that music was not for him. He did a fair amount of soul-searching and introspection, and eventually he discovered that his true interest lied in physics. Max was finally doing things his way. He was no longer pursuing achievements that were not in his best interest. Now, he is known as one of the most eminent physicists and is credited with many revolutionary breakthroughs in the field of physics.

Another such man, former Italian president, Cristini Barollio is a perfect example of such "accomplishment". Barollio was raised in a family of lower-class farmers. He was told by his parents from very early on that he was to follow in the footsteps of his family and become a farmer. But the precocious young Barolllio did not subscribe to his family's train of thought. He went on to graduate with honors from one the most prestigious universities in Italy and perused a spot within the Italian legislature. Had he submitted to the parochial wishes of his parents, he never would have accomplished what he did.

Ultimately, each person has his/her own way of accomplishing tasks and confronting challenges. But when the differing ideals of another are imposed upon a person, he/she will not live up to his/her full potential. People accomplish far more when they are allowed to do things with their own twist.
