Are we free to make our own decisions in life, or are out decisions always limited by the rules of society?

Society always had its norms. Some choose to live outside these norms while some live inside them. But how are there separate groups of people judged, and how are their opinions and decisions enforced by society? Although people have free will, I believe that in most cases society controls one's opinion. This can be seen in the difference in the variety of cultures around the world. For example, in the Netherlands, society is very free - it does not limit one's decisions. However, in the US, there is a less liberal society, which detracts from one's ability to choose.

The Netherlands have a very liberal society. References to drugs and sexual suggestive media are tolerated. Society there does not have as many rules, and therefore one can entertain many more options than in other cultures. Because there are less rules, people are free to make decisions. For example, society accepts the usage of cannabis and public nudity. In the Netherlands, choice is not restricted one's decisions are consequently not limited by rules.

Society in the US, however, is much stricter. It encroaches on its citizen's freedom of choice when they do not conform to the idea of normality. For example, the scorn of atheism is a social norm in the US, with atheists being the least distrusted minority. If one is atheist, he or she might be discouraged to "come out" as an atheist. Because of this strict rule of society, atheists' opinions or actions are subdued, giving evidence to the idea that society molds decisions.

Some people say that all have free will. However, this free will is hardly absolute.
because of rules imposed by society, one cannot truly make decisions based on their own opinion, depending on the society. If one goes against this grain, then he or she will most definitely be subjected to ridicule or derision.

It would probably be a 9 since you do not clearly expand on the thesis statement, in fact, there is a consistent evidence of digression…
