grade requests

I applied ED to human ecology and they requested my first quarter grades today... a week before decisions come out. What does this mean? Have any other human ecology people experienced this?

i'm just gonna copy and paste what i pasted in the engineer guy's thread:

"i think it generally means you are on the see-saw between being accepted or deferred, and they want more 'stuff' to re-evaluate you with- but that's just what i have read. this shouldn't make you the least bit anxious or nervous- they most likely think you are a good potential candidate for their school and just want to solidify what they feel.

again, i'm no adcom or expert, this is just off of what i've read."

I wonder if they're just doing it for every human ecology applicant though?

They haven't done it to me...I don't think so. Is it unusual? Care to share some stats...if you don't mind. Do they only do it to borderline applicants? And also, how did they request for 1st quarter grades...by emailing you or your counselor?

They contacted my counselor. Well, I'm definitely borderline. 2150 Sat. 650 Math, 700 Verbal, 800 writing. 4.2 weighted gpa. I dont understand why my grades were requested so late in the process.

Engineering girl. Hahah.

They telephoned my counselor.

I don't understand why that's borderline for Hum Ec. I have lower scores than you...I guess I'm an automatic reject.

Well I don't really understand how difficult it is to get into Humec? What's the average SAT?

essays and recommendations count, too

They probably sorted out the "yes we'll accept him" and "no, we'll reject him" people, and now are taking care of the last few who they couldn't decide on. It could mean they are looking to fill a few more spots, but that's pure speculation. This is a good sign. If your grades are good, I feel it means your chances of rejection are low.

drinkingmilk, Everyone's just trying to be modest about their chances (I guess, that includes me too).

I had sent in my mid year grades along with my app, but the self service account says that it hasnt been received. So I called them up and they said that they havnt started processing mid years yet. Anyway, since there was an error in the mid year grades, a new copy was sent yesterday. There's a HUGE difference between my grade-11 and midyear grades (which are WAY better) so it's kinda gonna make a big difference. But will Cornell actually look at it before they make their decision?????

My question is if Hum Ec hasn't request for my 1st quarter grades, what does that mean? It is usually good or bad? Am I most likely rejected?

If Cornell specifically requested your grades, then they definitely will look at them, no? How did you send your grades in? My counselor emailed them, but I believe he said he was going to fax them in as well.

Cornell did not request my grades. My counselor advised me to send it. I sent it by courier yesterday (should reach by tomm). Cornell does not accept transcripts sent by fax. I'm not too sure about email either.

What if they haven't contacted you at all?

I dont see anything wrong with them not contacting u. I dont think they're gonna try contacting even half of the total, i think its 4000 applicants. Besides, they'll probably contact u if u r borderline or are missing materials.

If the counselor personally sends it, I think they'll accept it, especially since they called him first. I mean, they would have specified that grades have to be sent via courier. In any case, if they don't accept grades through email, then I guess my counselor will recieve a reply saying so.

I agree with MetallicManiac, drinkingmilkalldaylong. I'd feel better had they not contacted me. My counselor told me that the adcoms from the College of Engineering specifically requested my Calc and Phys grades. I think I'm borderline...

I rather be borderline than rejected.

The Cornell App specifically states on page 5:

Please note: Cornell does not accept faxed documents or those sent as attachments to e-mail messages.

So you'd better contact them. At this point, every second's precious.
Anyway, I think we should all just chill out and wait for the decision. I think all of us on CC are fine in terms of not getting rejected. Me - Unfortunately, i think I'm most likely deffered.

Argh, but it's my counselor who's sending it! Booo to them! I'm now stressed. Ok, I'll check with him anddd with them today. Thank you!!
