Grade self-reporting

Hi, this is my first post here and I'm filling out the application for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have a few questions about self-reporting high school grades in the application.

The instructions say "Do not average grades. If your transcript shows grades for 2 semesters, 3 trimesters, or 4 quarters for each class, list each grade separately; do not list a final grade." On my transcript, a grade is shown for each semester of a course taken. When self-reporting, you fill out a course you took as it appears on your transcript and the grade you got in that class is a subfield of the course. The following term options apply to me: 1st Semester, 2nd Semester, and All Year, but All Year only lets you put in one grade. Does this mean that I should enter two duplicate courses for each year long class I've taken and only change the term and grade field for each? I think that's what it wants me to do, but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't being redudant.

Also, it has an option to report grades for classes taken before high school. I took Spanish I, Algebra I, and Geometry in middle school, but these classes aren't on my transcript and I don't remember the exact grades I got in them. If I omit them, will this count against me, or will they just assume I took them since I took Spanish II and Algebra II freshman year?

Thanks for any help.

Go here for some answers to FAQs on the SRAR http://admissions.illinois.edu/faq/srar.html</a>. As to reporting pre-high school courses, you need to do so if you want them to use those courses toward the count of needed years of a subject for admission; they will not “make assumptions” for that count. You can find out your grades in junior high by contacting your junior high and request it send you a transcript.

Not sure of question on semester and year grades. If you mean you took a year long course like English 3 and got a grade at the end of each semester then you report the course for each semester and semester grade. If you mean you got a grade for each semester and then also got a grade for the entire year, then you will need to create a third listing for the entire year grade.

What we did is to choose “All Year” and report as one course if the grade is the same for both semester. When the grades are different for the 2 semesters, we have it duplicated and choose semester 1 for one grade and semester 2 for the other grade.

DS put it in by semester, just as listed on his transcript. Maybe it’s overkill but it did say exactly as it appears, so he did it abbreviations and all.

^ That should be the most appropriate way. Anyway, they don’t want the transcript until you are admitted. Then they will match your application with the transcript.
