Do violence and immorality in the media make our society more dangerous and immoral?

Media influences the mind of the masses. It has the power to capture people’s attention and expose them to things that they might not have otherwise known. Therefore, media does have an important role in spreading violence and immorality in the society.
Humans can be influenced very easily especially when it comes to teenagers. With the rapid spread of media such as television, internet, newspapers, radios etc, in the recent years, this influence has also grown. Whatever media displays leaves an impact on our minds.For instance, movies and dramas portray all aspects of society with a lot of melodrama in order to make the content more appealing. They show people murdering each other or seeking revenge for no concrete reason, creating a false scenario about how to handle a situation. Such things affect impressionable minds that tend to think in a similar way. A few weeks back, a teenage boy shot his girlfriend and then himself in their school, in Karachi because they were in love and wanted to get married while their were obviously not thrilled by the idea. Therefore, instead of talking to them and sorting things out, the kids took such an extreme measure that cost them their lives. Instances like these usually arise in movies and this is probably where the boy got this idea from.
Furthermore, our society is becoming immoral by the day. Intimate videos and explicit pictures on media urge people to engage in similar activities without knowing where to draw the lines. Proponents of media may argue that humans are not compelled to do such things and their actions are entirely on them. Media is just doing its job and humans being the best of God’s creations should have the ability to differentiate between good and bad. These people seem to overlook the fact that humans are not angels but instead an epitome of mistakes. Temptation can make even the most steadfast people go astray. With media feeding violence and immoral values in the society, people are bound to be deeply influenced.
Media is taking the society towards a dark side at a fats pace. With its appealing and effective way to seep into people’s minds, it is poisoning our society and making them lose contact with reality.

What are the most important qualities of a leader?

A leader is someone who represents his people by his actions. The mark of a true leader is that in his eyes every one of his people holds an equal importance and is equally heard. A real leader is not an aristocrat but a slave of his people.

In today’s world, we can rarely witness a leader who is approachable and his priority is to have the best interests of his people. However, leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Nelson Mandela and others like them displayed the marks of true leaders. For instance, when we consider the sacrifices an d contributions made by Jinnah in order to free the Muslims of India from oppression and tyranny, we comprehend the real meaning of a leader. He lead his people with great perseverance and gave them hope in times of great despair. He made the Muslims fight for their rights and made a dream come to reality. It was his efforts and resilience that enabled the Muslims to have a land they could call home. Jinnah showed that a leader should keep his followers’ needs before his own, when he did not reveal to his people about his deteriorating health due to his terminal illness in order to avoid chaos in the new nation. Therefore, there is no dubiety in saying that he was considered a living legend of his time.

On a lighter note, even when we look at teenagers and children being a part of a group for a school project or a team for some competition, there is usually a leader appointed. this leader is not there to boast about his supremacy due to his position of responsibility. In fact, he is there to listen to every one of his teammate and make decisions by consulting them and keeping their opinions in mind. If he has the capability to be a true leader, he would maintain unity and equality which would lead the group to victory. In the end, he would not take credit for everything but instead, he will make sure that every member of his group gets the recognition that they deserve.

Hence, a genuine leader must be resilient and not be despaired by obstacles that try and tear him and his people down; because his strength is the key that will propel his people towards greatness and success.
