Graded Essay Problem

I’m applying to Princeton RD. I was aware of the graded essay req, and I picked out the perfect paper. Unfortunately, I realized that I discarded the graded hard copy. The teacher didn’t write a physical grade on it, only a few comments. I know I got an A, but there’s no grade for me to print out.

I have a hard copy of a paper from this year, but it does not adequately showcase my writing. The previous paper was related to one kg my degrees, and I know my teacher referenced how good it was in his rec, but I’m not sure to what degree since I didn’t read it. Do you guys think the paper sans the comments is sufficient?

I had a similar issue too. My paper was digitally submitted to turnitin.com, but the class has since been dropped. I know the grade I got on it and managed to find the rubric, so I just attached the rubric with the paper, added a cover page with a note saying “this is the grade I got… etc” and provided the contact information for my teacher in case they want to check it with her.

Not sure if this is conventional, but I provided an explanation and listed a reference. If you do choose to submit the stronger essay, I’d recommend doing something similar to what I did. And don’t forget to let your teacher know about it, in case he/she will be contacted. Hope this helps!

Princeton wants to read the comments and grade for your graded paper.
If there is no grade on the body of your paper, I suggest that you enter it as, for example, “Grade received: A” to the end of your writing and then upload as one document.

I agree with @Lyrinia . It would be okay to add a cover page to explain honestly the situation. (It would not be good to add something that was not there originally, to the written sample.) Also, it would be a good idea to contact the teacher who graded your paper to see if he/she has a record or recollection of it, or he/she could write a short note for you to attach with your application. The whole thing could be mailed to Princeton Admissions separately.

The AOs are mature and understanding people, and many are probably also parents. They will understand. It would be okay if you explain clearly and honestly.
