I am a sophomore at college and i got a F on my first semester of chemistry and i have taken calculus twice and both times i have gotten a D. I am a psych major, and all my other grades are between As and Bs. Are my chances for med school over?

Sounds like your science GPA (BCMP courses) is very low.

How have you fared in your other science coursework? Have you taken biology yet? Physics? What were your grades in those?

I would say that so far, it does not look promising for med school. It wouldn’t declare it entirely hopeless yet, but you’ve put yourself in very, very, very bad position to raise your grades high enough to be a competitive candidate for med school. You’ll need a sGPA of around 3.5 to be competitive.

You need to identify why you’re doing so poorly in your science classes. Do you not have a strong high school background in the fields? Do you lack the study skills or discipline to keep up with the classwork? Is it simply not your area of strength? (BTW, no shame in the latter, but it does mean that med school isn’t going to be in your future.)

Once you identify what’s going wrong for you, then you can take steps to fix it.

Since you’re already a sophomore (rising junior?), it’s probably best to put aside any a med school aspirations for now and concentrate on raising your overall GPA.

After graduation, if you still want medical school, you can consider applying to a post-bachelor program to get your pre med requirements completed.
