Hi I was curious if the grade/sat requirements are the same for musical theatre applicants compared to gen ed students. For example Michigan is very competitive. Do you need the same grades to apply as a typical student? thank you
Yes, you have to have good grades, and you need them to even pass the prescreen.
Grades equal to the typical accepted student?
No, not at all @sue4646 There’s a baseline minimum - 3.0 and a 24 ACT - that’s required before you have a chance. The actual GPA of accepted students in the school of Music is more like a 3.7 / 29 ACT from what I can see online but that’s nowhere near the average stats for the school as a whole. Lots of people don’t pass the MI MT prescreen and blame their academics for it but I don’t know there’s any truth to that - if you meet the minimum and the school is a fit, go for it. Just know going in that Umich is one of the best MT schools in the country and they see a lot of talented applicants.
