grades good enough?

I just wanted to know if my grades are good enough for the top schools (HYPSM etc.). I plan on majoring in some type of science but I'm still concerned about my low English grades and the large drop from 9th to 10th grade.

9th Grade

Algebra II Honors: 95
English Honors: 98
Physics Honors: 95
Spanish III: 96
World History: 100
Band: 96

10th Grade

PreCalculus Honors: 90
English Honors: 89
AP Chemistry: 93
Spanish IV: 98
AP US History I: 91
Band: 96

11th Grade

AP Calculus AB: 95
AP English: 90
AP Biology: 94
Spanish V Honors: 95
AP US History II: 95
Band: 96

Thanks...

^Yes collegekid is right. WE need your rank to figure out how good they really are, because schools have bogus grade inflation.

For example at my school those grades would be spectacular.

My school doesn't rank but by my estimation (and with input from my GC) I can safely say I'm one of the top 10 students (out of 450). My school is ranked 4th in NJ and is incredibly competitive.

If you have to ask, chances are it's not good enough. Why can't you just be confident in yourself? You can't exactly change your grades, anyway.

I'm Asian but I'm not asking for chances though...I just want to know if my grades are in the range for Ivies and other top schools. the junior year grades haven't even happened yet (I'm a rising junior). The top 10 rank is after sophomore year.

just like a yes or no so I can see if I need to aim higher for junior year or if I'm aiming high enough already

sorry if I wasn't clear before.

You're predicting your junior year grades? Lol, are you in for a big surprise, then.

Why not just aim for the 100.

what? why am I in for a big surprise. the grades are based on what I believe I'm capable of and what other people have actually gotten in the classes...

can someone just say yes or no? lol

Trust me you are good enough. I go to a similar school in NJ (who knows it could be the same school). Admission will come down to securing high test scores, performing excellent EC's, nailing the essays, and ensuring positive recs. Since you're predicting your junior year grades, I'm predicting based on what you predicted. In actual fact I'd envision a 87ish in AP English, which is still respectable. Anyway, with your class rank you have nothing to worry about. But still, HYPSM will be reaches; I assume you'll be applying there as an Asian in an excellent NJ school.

ok thanks for the reply.

As I've said before, your grades are not good enough. And you're fooling yourself by waiting for other people to say yes for you.

lol I'm not "waiting for people to say yes" because I haven't even gotten these grades yet...so my grades for junior year need to be higher? or are my sophomore grades so crappy that junior or senior year grades cannot make up for them? Is the actual grade in the class more important or my class rank?

oh ok sweet. my school has a lot of grade deflation. anyway, I've gotten all the answers I need, thanks.

PKswmr76, I know what school you go to (I'm in NJ, and I go to a top school there too). I think those grades are excellent in challenging courses, but for HPYSM, you need much more than grades to be admitted. I agree that your demographics will work against you, considering that you are an OMR, from a school with many great students, in a state that has many great applicants. Be more worried about EC's than your grades, if you want those schools you have to figure out who to seperate yourself from the sea of applicants with similar circumstances (like me).
