are all of your grades mailed home AND posted online?

some of my friends' schools dont mail gades home at all, they are only posted on the students' school access websites for them alone to see. how do schools determine what info is sent home? i've heard about FERPA (some family rights thing...), but i dont really know about it and what it does. could someone enlighten me?

and how do you all feel about parents having all info (not just grades, but disciplinary action, etc) sent to them? do you think that things should/should not be done through the student alone, to be shared with parents if they wish?

I believe that the FERPA basically says that your parents can't see your grades (to protect your privacy) unless you sign a form authorizing the school to mail them home.

I signed it over - hey, my parents are footing the bill, and I think they should be allowed and be aware of how I'm doing. And yeah, my grades are posted online and mailed (although they're usually online well before the official notice comes in the mail).

I'm pretty sure I signed whatever so my parents could see my grades (they are paying for my schooling), but I always just tell them what I get... is it really that big a deal?

just to clarify things--im not against my parents/anyone's parents seeing their grades, but i was just wondering how different colleges either dont send them to parnts at all, or decide to do so. and i also wanted to throw out that question to hear your opinions as well

My grades are also posted online. FERPA simply states that if parents want access to your grades, medical records, or financial records, only YOU can authorize them to see them, the university cannot give them access without your permission. My university had us fill out a form as to whether or not we made certain authorizations; just about everyone gave the financial authorization, at the least.

My grades are only posted online but I print them and show my parents. We were never given any forms to sign, but I tell my parents everything, so it doesn't really matter
