I've got three of them right now - unweighted - and apparently any points over 100 don't count in ranking or GPA. So, two questions: what's your school's policy regarding this sort of thing, and should unweighted grades over 100 be considerded legitimate?

IMO - if everyone has the same opportunities for extra credit, "taking away" higher grades is ignoring the points earned.

in my skool AP classes are weighted 1.1 so sometimes u can end up with a grade of 102.3 for example (like if your grade was 93). the 93 is entered on the official report card (with a star next to it or w/e) but 102.3 is what is used in the total sum of grades which is then divided by the # of grades to equals your grade avg for the marking period of all classes
works for me

Sailor- At my school grades are just A, B, C, D, E, but that is really unfair. You should get over 100- if the extra credit counts towards other's grades it should count towards yours too.

It is just a 100 here; it's capped, as well as it should be. If you have over a 100, that shows that you have tons of extra credit, which isn't fair, in my opinion. Maybe I'm just a sour grape because my school is TOTALLY against it.

The highest here is 100. Last year a kid took HolyCross/WPI math courses and had averages over 100, but they were marked at 100 for the school. Anything over 100 is crap, my teachers dont believe in extra credit, nor do I.

There are very few opportunities for extra credit at my school. A couple math teachers use it on their tests, but usually that is to offset its difficulty. Very few get 100s in classes here. :( I wish my AP classes weren't 91, 91, and 93 last term but I have more to worry about this term, because I've been overwhelmed with work. I just hope I can scrape an A in Bio....:(

If you have over 100 at my school, you get 100. But some teachers have a thing against giving 100s, so some'll just give you a 99. Only very few classes give extra credit.

I hate when teachers give extra credit. IT isn't fair even though I do most of it. For first quarter in stats class, I had a 107 with extra credit. The second highest was a 98 with extra credit. My report card only reported a 100. Now she hasn't given any extra credit this quarter and I have a 98 and the girl who had a 98 last quarter has a 100 this quarter. It just isn't fair that we come out being the same grade wise. She should at least use those useless extra credit points from 1st quarter to make my grade this quarter a 100. (PS...without extra credit last quarter, I had a 100 and the girl had a 94)

I have a 105 in AP Art History, because I've gotten a perfect on nearly every test, every essay, so forth...

I have extra points because of classroom discussions, such as volunteering to analyze a painting, and if it's good, I'll get extra points. It used to not be for extra points, but then half the class is literally failing. Now, a little over a third are failing.

She's an excellent teacher though, but she grades pretty strictly.

Here it depends on what class one is taking; the lower levels give out great deals of extra credit, but none of the APs do so for one already is given a full point boost in the GPA for taking the class.

my school rarely if ever gives extra credit. it's almost the opposite- for example, in my spanish class the teacher puts at least one word/phrase that isnt anywhere in the chapter(s) or on any worksheets she has given us. she says if you study you should still get a 96 so it "doesnt matter". very annoying.

We never get extra credit at school. But then again we aren't given real number grades. Just 1-7. There's no 8 or anything. No one ever gets hundreds or even near to it. The border line for a 7 in most areas is like 75%. No way of getting above 100%, ever.
